Dogtooth Bar + Grill Mozzarella Sticks

Image
Dogtooth Bar + Grill Mozzarella Sticks-- 5.5/10 I loved visiting Wildwood in the fall! I got to try old favorites again and new places! I tried these on my first visit to this eatery, which I probably wouldn’t have tried on the on-season, but was glad to try out when visiting in the fall! The breading: These were your standard crispy outer coating, which seems to be all they have on the island. They were very crunchy and fresh, but not overly flavorful.  The cheese: Somehow the most bland part of the experience! No cheese pull, despite the freshness of the platter. Fine, but nothing spectacular. The sauce: The star of the show here! This had a nice flavor and sweetness that complimented the mozzarella sticks and French fries so well. This would have been great on a pizza! Overall a decent experience, but $11.50 for five mozzarella sticks doesn’t sit right with me. Cue Laura Dern: “Not in my world. Not in the world I’m living in.”

Jellyfish Cafe Mozzarella Sticks

Jellyfish Cafe Mozzarella Sticks-- 6.5/10 HAPPY FIFTIETH REVIEW, DEAR READERS!!! Thank you so much for supporting me on my journey to find the best of the best! <3 I was fortunate enough to visit Wildwood during my birthday month of October (the best month) and get to see the island during the off-season in beautiful weather and with less crowds. I also got to go back to some favorite spots, with much shorter lines, this place being one of them!  The breading: A simple fried outer coating that was somewhat bland but did not taste bad. Not playing in their favor, but not working against them. The cheese: Once again, bland! The cheese was not notable in any way and there was no cheese pill at all. The sauce: This was easily the best part of the experience and makes up a decent part of the score (especially because the dish of marinara was huge). This sauce was seasoned and flavorful and I did not want to eat a bite of mozzarella stick without dipping first! I was not expect...

Seaside Diner's Mozzarella Sticks

Seaside Diner's Mozzarella Sticks-- 6/10 crowns I actually really enjoy ed these, especially because mozzarella sticks are so hard to find in Wildwood. They were fresh and hot and crispy and crunchy. But let’s get into it. The breading: These were a crispy coating, not real breadcrumbs. I wasn’t mad at that, and though they did kind of fall apart as you ate them, the flavor was good. As said above, fresh and hot and crispy and crunchy. The cheese: Since these were fresh, I was actually able to get a cheese pull! The flavor was good, not bland. Nice compliment to the crunchy coating.  The sauce: The marinara was thin and runny and certainly a weak spot, but not flavorless and definitely not a bad flavor. Not seasoned and probably from a can but does the job if you absolutely need to dip. My qualm with these is that I paid $9 for five mozzarella sticks. Even though it’s Wildwood and I know the prices are jacked up here, I find that to be exorbitant and while I would love to sco...

Burger King Fiery Dragon Mozzarella Fries

Image
Burger King Fiery Dragon Mozzarella Fries-- 4.5/10 crowns The breading: I did dock a point for the mozzarella sticks literally being orange, but since it’s Burger King, maybe my standards are too high. The breading was super spicy (though I do not generally have a high tolerance for spicy foods) and I felt the effects of that for several minutes after finishing them. The cheese: Bland. Again, not surprised but also not impressed in any way. No cheese pull, but I think that was obvious. The sauce: The marinara works for me. It’s a little tangy. It definitely detracted from the spiciness of the breading which was a plus for me. Generally, though, we shouldn’t expect a lot from marinara in a cup such as this one. Overall, I wouldn’t go for these again, but I find them to be a good addition to the blog. I will also not be seeing the live-action How to Train Your Dragon , of which these were a promotional item.

Tony’s Pizzeria Mozzarella Sticks

Image
Tony’s Pizzeria Mozzarella Sticks-- 3/10 crowns  The breading: The breading on these was so sparse I could actually see the white of the cheese through it. Personally, I do not really like floppy mozzarella sticks so these did not hit the mark. The cheese: The ratio on these was mostly cheese and I just don’t think it did them any favors. The cheese was bland, but the mozzarella sticks overall were bearable when warm. The sauce: The sauce for these was ok! A little chunky and noticeably acidic, but I think it was a good addition to the plate! Overall, I would not repurchase these. I spent $8.95 on FIVE mozzarella sticks and though they were larger than average, they were not good enough to justify the cost. Also, when they were cooled to a room temperature, they were so floppy and bad that I did not even bother to finish what was left in the tin.

Benny’s Pizza Mozzarella Sticks

Image
Benny’s Pizza Mozzarella Sticks-- 7/10 crowns This experience was my first time eating at this place. I can honestly say that I will be returning customer! The Breading: so the breading for me was very crunchy and very crispy, which was a plus for me. Always a sucker for the breaded coating! I definitely appreciate that they stayed warm on the DoorDash trip to my house.  The cheese: While there was no cheese pull for this particular mozzarella stick. I still have to give kudos where it’s due instead of this being a bland, flavorless cheese, I feel like the cheese flavor enhanced the overall experience that I had. The sauce: Though the sauce was probably the weakest part of this entire experience, I still liked the flavor, and I don’t think that it detracted from these mozzarella sticks. Overall, $8.95 for eight mozzarella sticks in this economy is pretty good especially when the mozzarella sticks themselves are good. I will be returning here.

Sunshine Deli Mozzarella Sticks

Image
Sunshine Deli Mozzarella Sticks 5/10 crowns  I feel like these were very mid. They were good enough, but the price detracts from my score. The breading: Even though it’s orange-y in color, the breaded coating is solid. It’s a bit crumbly, so when you bite into it, expect some breading to fall off. The cheese: I got these delivered, and they were still hot by the time they got to me, and I got to experience some minor cheese pulls! Once again, a solid part of the experience. The sauce: Unquestionably the weakest part of the experience. The sauce felt bland and it was clear that this is not the reason why you go to this eatery. Not awful, but wouldn’t try again.  Overall, $8.79 for six mozzarella sticks feels like highway robbery! Worth the try, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to have these.
